Traditions and Identity
The Space Wolves descend from the Sixth Legion and carry the warrior traditions of Fenris into battle. Honour, loyalty and personal courage shape their identity. Their fierce appearance is matched by cunning and a strong bond between warriors.
Their pale blue-grey armour is decorated with markings and symbols rooted in Fenrisian culture. These details express the identity and achievements of the warriors wearing them, connecting their service as Space Marines to the traditions of their home world.
Leman Russ
Leman Russ is the Primarch of the Space Wolves, known as the Wolf King. Raised on the harsh world of Fenris, he became a warrior-king whose character closely matched that of his Legion. Loyalty to his warriors and determination in the hunt helped define his leadership.
During the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, Russ led the Sixth Legion into some of its defining conflicts. His sons continue to look to his example, seeking to combine strength and ferocity with the instincts of a hunter.
Fenris
Fenris is the frozen home world of the Space Wolves. Its harsh environment and tribal cultures shape the warriors who join the Chapter.
The wolves of Fenris occupy a special place in their traditions. Pelts and wolf-shaped symbols decorate their armour, while some of the world's great wolves accompany them into battle.
Great Companies
The Space Wolves organise their warriors into Great Companies led by Wolf Lords. These commanders combine battlefield experience with the ferocity and instincts of hunters.
Each Great Company has its own heraldry, giving its warriors a shared visual identity within the Chapter. The company markings connect individual Space Wolves to the brotherhood beside whom they fight.
Leading these warriors demands both strategic judgement and personal resolve. A Wolf Lord must direct the strength of his company towards the enemy while responding to the changing demands of battle.
The Hunt and the Saga
The Space Wolves favour close combat, seeking out enemy champions and meeting them with chainswords, axes and other melee weapons.
Their assaults are supported by ranged weapons, tanks, aircraft and Dreadnoughts. Their preference for fighting face to face is backed by the wider capabilities of a Space Marine army.
The greatest deeds become sagas: spoken accounts that preserve a warrior's achievements. These stories connect new victories to the Chapter's past and the legacy of Leman Russ.
